Vascular access can be critical for dosing and investigating clinical performance measures and treatment effects. A portal vein catheter is used primarily in pharmacological studies but may also be used in physiology studies when dosing or sampling from the liver is important.
The technique allows easy access for repeated dosing or blood sampling; free movement is allowed.
